Gunnbjornsfjeld
Luc Hardy and his Sagax Double Top Greenland expedition reach the highest summit of Greenland.
He writes: "We have now been in Greenland for two weeks. This past Wednesday, we did reach the summit of Gunnbjornsfjeld. I recorded a GPS altitude of 3694m, in line with the official alt. of 3693m. It was a very long day of 17 hours, but exhilarating and beautiful. We even had the opportunity to spot yellow lichen at 3643m, just 50m below summit. Olivier Gilg our chief scientist will send pictures and then samples to Denmark for analysis. We are now transiting from eastern Greenland to Northern Greenland and will start our two week survey and scientific adventure there.
We have accomplished part one of our mission which was to reach the summit of Greenland (and thus the arctic), while collecting data and information on fauna and flore. The team was able to spot an ivory gull colony last week at about 100 km from Gunnbjornsfjeld (that colony was first spotted in 1984 but not since then) and different species of lichens and flowers near base camp"
