The SAS70 (Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70) is an internationally recognised auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) that ensures that a service organisation such as KDS has conducted an in-depth audit of their control activities. SAS70 is designed to enable an independent auditor (in this case Deloitte) to evaluate and issue an opinion on a service organisation's controls.
A SAS70 accreditation certifies that organisations such as KDS have detailed and well documented controls in place to preserve the security and privacy of data being stored, processed and transmitted. Type II audits in particular look at these controls over a period of time, typically six months, and include an opinion from the independent service auditor on whether the controls were operating effectively during this period.
